WEEK 1: SAY IT

This week is about choosing your focus and giving it a proper home.

What do you choose? It can be a half-baked project from your past, a new concept you’re integrating, a career change, a new business - anything that’s been begging for your attention.

Say it aloud. Write it down.

My focus is ________ and I will now direct my awareness towards doing exercises that prioritize my daily commitment to its growth.

GIVE YOUR FOCUS A HOME

In which of the 7 areas of life does your focus exist? Health, Work, Community, Relationship, Space, Rest, or Nature.

Now, think like a host does when they prepare to hold a gathering. Create an intentional environment for your focus:

Choose something to hold all of your ideas, brainstorms and sketches about this focus such as: a notebook, a digital document, a specific software, an app, etc. The “home” for your focus is consciously chosen for shape, texture, ease, color, and quality. The more specific you can be, the better. What you choose should also have scaleability as the focus matures.

Now, choose a place in your home or office where you do this work. Make sure it’s frequently tidied and clean.

Weekly Practicum

Concentrate on your focus for some time each day. Do the best you can. The time stamps are noted to provide guard rails so that you stay on task. Set a timer! You may do the exercise that feels most compelling on the day, but I do recommend to begin each work period by first connecting to your field.

  • Close your eyes and become aware of the rhythm of your breath. Allow your posture to elongate vertically from a seated position.

Guide your awareness to the center of your skull and let it remain here for some time. When it acclimates fully you might feel a sensation. Notice it.

‍Keeping your awareness there, open a channel that extends downward to your heart. Acclimate.

Now, with your inner eye, gaze outward into the space that surrounds you.

Tune into what appears and who enters your field. Take action if that is necessary.

  • What’s the information most pressing on your mind? Take time to hone in and complete something.

  • Write, illustrate, narrate, code, connect, post, sing ~ make something come alive through your medium of choice.

  • Put the focus on the center of the metaphorical round table and engage with it by asking questions for problems you need to solve or innovations you’d like to make.

Try to NOT answer them immediately. Sit with one or two questions for the duration of this week.

    What if…?

    How can we redefine X…?

Why does ___ need to change?

Does this require a new approach?

    Make up your own!

  • To enhance productivity within your chosen focus, complete the 7 circles exercise.

Allow the reflection of your diagram to prompt your next move. For example, as you center your focus on this project, how does it effect your other relationships? Do you need to announce your shift in priorities? Ask for help in another area?

Everything is interconnected so what you do in one aspect affects the whole web. Get in front of any unintentional calamities through the generous act of communication.

  • Look at the work you’ve done. Let your reflection evoke feelings of gratitude as you consciously adapt and stretch your perspective. With this concentration and the rhythm of your breathing, you’re practicing mind/heart coherence.
